Shared Knowledge Day 2019 – The report

The ninth Shared Knowledge Day conference for housekeepers and general managers was a sound success again, and it gathered over 300 visitors and 55 exhibitors.

Park Plaza Westminster kindly accommodated the event in their grand ballroom, with fantastic food throughout the day and superb service from their team. Sebastian Dabrowski, the UKHA’s events, IT and communications manager and national memberships secretary, reports.

The day was filled with many interesting speakers and presentations on very current challenges within the hotel industry. The undeniable star of the event was Jeff Wielgopolan, the vice president at Forbes Travel Guide, who flew all the way from Houston to talk about inspiring guests through intuitive service. The discussion panel, led so professionally and humorously by Peter Hancock, shared their housekeeping experiences from other countries (Hong Kong, USA, Dubai, Germany and even cruise lines).

Shared Knowledge Day 2019 Three further workshops touched upon current environmental challenges with usage of plastic and palm oil in the hospitality industry, new cloud based health and safety solutions, and a new tool assisting guests and housekeepers to find the furniture and fabrics from their inventory and creating new revenue streams for their hotels.

All presentations were recorded and will be made available on the UKHA website and YouTube. One of the highlights of the conference was the fashion show sponsored and organised by Simon Jersey.

Their newest collection was presented by six fantastic dancers from Moo & Goo, and the whole show was professionally narrated by Simon Jersey’s head of design, Helen Harker.

The half an hour spectacle was a true joy to watch and provided quite an inspiration to some of the guests on uniform ideas for their teams. Congratulations to the entire team involved in putting on such a wonderful show!

In 2020 the 10th anniversary of the Shared Knowledge Day promises a unique event with very special guests and a couple of surprises.
