Mandy’s amazing surprise
The head housekeeper of Norwich’s Maids Head Hotel, Mandy Ames, was named as ‘Unsung Hero’ at this year’s Suffolk and Norfolk Tourism Awards.
What’s more she was able to celebrate with colleagues as the hotel, which dates back more than 800 years, also won the Hotel of the Year title and the Taste of England award for championing local suppliers, seasonal produce and bringing innovation to the table.
Mandy, who’s worked there for more than 35 years, received her award during a ceremony at Diss Corn Hall. During that time, she’s become a treasure to both fellow staff and guests, in maintaining the high standards of the hotel’s 84 bedrooms. She said: “I am lost for words. I had no idea I had been nominated until I was told I was a finalist. I’m absolutely thrilled.”
General manager Christine Malcolm added: “This recognition reflects the passion and commitment of the entire team. Whether guests are staying, dining in our two AA Rosette WinePress Restaurant, celebrating a special occasion or simply visiting for coffee, we aim to provide a warm welcome and a memorable experience. I am so incredibly proud of Mandy who I have had the pleasure of working alongside for nearly 20 years.”
Other winners included Holly Lodge Boutique Bed and Breakfast in the B&B and guest house category, and Forest Park Outstanding Natural Holidays in the camping, glamping and holiday park sector.
