Landmark store to become hotel
From fire stations to former newspaper printworks, many former city landmarks are being transformed into hotels. Now what was once the Debenham’s store in Edinburgh’s famous Princes Street is set to join the hospitality sector.
Legal & General, on behalf of the L&G UK Property Fund, plan a 207-room four-star Marriott Tribute hotel with rooftop bar there, and city councillors have approved the scheme. It will be a £50 million transformation, with ICA Architects ensuring all the heritage of the building is retained. Work is expected to start next year, with the hotel opening in 2024.
