Country house hotels changing hands
Donnington Grove Hotel & Country Club, an estate near Newbury, Berkshire, has gone on the market with an £8m price tag. The impressive 18th-century Grade II listed manor house sits in some 280 acres and has an 18-hole golf course.
The current owners have operated the hotel since 2005 and say: “After a long period of ownership, and in light of the passing of two of the original company directors, we have decided the time is right to hand Donnington Grove to new owners. Most importantly we would like to thank the staff, with whom we have shared this memorable journey, for their hard work and dedication over the years.”
The hotel has 40 en-suite bedrooms and facilities include an elegantly refurbished restaurant and bar, multiple meeting and event spaces. The sale is being handled by Christie & Co, where regional director Ed Bellfield says: “Donnington Grove is an exceptional property offering scale, heritage and operational depth rarely found in the market.”
Meanwhile Christie & Co have managed the sale of three Delta Hotels by Marriott resorts across the UK: the Delta Hotels by Marriott St. Pierre Country Club in Monmouthshire, the Delta Hotels by Marriott Breadsall Priory Country Club in Derbyshire, and the Delta Hotels by Marriott Tudor Park Country Club in Kent.
Together, the three properties offer 380 keys and sit across more than 900 acres of freehold countryside estates, with extensive golf, leisure, spa, food and beverage, and meeting facilities. They’ve been acquired by Select Group, the Dubai-headquartered real estate developer and hospitality investor, marking a significant expansion of its UK hospitality platform.
Previously Select Group purchased The Mere Golf Resort & Spa in Cheshire and Old Thorns Hotel & Resort in Hampshire.
