Better Cotton’s new aims
Better Cotton, the world’s leading sustainability initiative for cotton, has launched a 2030 Strategy and first-ever Climate Change Mitigation Target, which has been set to reduce greenhouse gas emissions per tonne of Better Cotton produced by 50 per cent by 2030.
The initiative supported by cotton producers, suppliers and manufacturers, retailers and brands, has a mission of helping cotton communities survive and thrive, while protecting and restoring the environment.
Their new strategy includes additional impact targets covering soil health, pesticide use, smallholder livelihoods and women’s empowerment, to be developed by the end of 2022. Commitments align with the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals and build on agreements reached at COP26 to reach actionable climate mitigation outcomes for cotton farming communities. Copies of the strategy can be downloaded from the ‘Who We Are’ section of bettercotton.org.
